Reminder to Jefferson residents: Keep your grass mowed

Jefferson building and zoning officer Tom Heater on Tuesday issued the following reminder to residents:

“With the recent welcome rains the city of Jefferson would like to remind  residents to keep their grass mowed.

“Ordinance Number 532 requires that grass, weeds or brush not grow to a height greater than 8 inches.

“In the event residents fail to abate or cause to be abated the above nuisance as directed, the City will take such steps as are necessary to abate or cause to be abated the nuisance and the costs will be assessed against the property as  provided by law. The cost of the City mowing the premises will be billed at  the rate of $130 per hour with a one hour minimum.

“Residents will be sent an initial notice advising of any violations which will  serve as notice for the entire year. If future  violations occur the City may take steps to abate the nuisance and assess  costs without further notice.

“Residents are also reminded not to blow their grass clippings onto the city  streets or other property owners’ property.

“Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.”
